The initiative aims to foster mutual understanding between Algeria and Senegal by showcasing the diversity and uniqueness of Algerian products. Bellat’s commitment to exporting to Senegal reflects a vision of promoting economic ties and people-to-people connections.
The presence of the Algerian Ambassador to Senegal and the accompanying delegation at the Bellat stand underscores the diplomatic significance of such ventures. The visit not only symbolizes economic collaboration but also strengthens the cultural ties between the two nations.
In summary, Bellat Group’s successful debut in Senegal not only cements its status as a leader in the Algerian market but also positions Algeria favorably on the global stage. The strategic partnerships forged during the exhibition set the stage for continued international expansion, contributing to the growth of Algerian businesses and fostering diplomatic ties between nations.
Algeria and Senegal Forge Strong Economic Ties: A Growing Partnership
Algeria, one of the largest countries in Africa, boasts extensive natural resources, particularly in energy and hydrocarbons. Simultaneously, Senegal stands as a major commercial and economic hub in West Africa, with thriving sectors such as agriculture, fisheries, tourism, and services. These two complementary economies present numerous opportunities for trade.
In 2020, bilateral trade between Algeria and Senegal reached approximately 12 billion CFA francs, primarily consisting of imports of hydrocarbons and minerals from Algeria. This was made possible through the signing of several commercial agreements across different sectors.
Over recent years, commercial relations between Algeria and Senegal have witnessed significant growth. In 2020, trade between the two countries amounted to $19.9 million, or about 12 billion CFA francs, predominantly constituted by imports of hydrocarbons and minerals from Algeria. The strengthening of exchanges can be attributed to the signing of various bilateral agreements aimed at promoting trade and investments. Key sectors in these trade relations include agriculture, energy, infrastructure, and services.
“The bilateral relations between our two countries have indeed evolved positively in recent years with a shared will and mutual interest in strengthening economic cooperation. We are currently with President Macky Sall and a delegation of Senegalese businessmen. In this context, a significant delegation of Algerian businessmen has also recently conducted missions in Senegal, demonstrating their interest and willingness to invest in several key sectors of the Senegalese economy.”
According to the Senegalese Minister of Commerce and Small and Medium Enterprises, Abdou Karim Fofana, the quality of these exchanges is the result of joint efforts by Algerian and Senegalese authorities to promote fruitful and mutually beneficial cooperation.
“These strong initiatives by Algerian authorities to showcase their economic and banking expertise on the African continent are commendable. This approach contributes to the convergence of our economies and the strengthening of relations between our populations in commercial exchanges. The commitment of the Algerian people to economic sovereignty and inclusive development in the continent has manifested in various ways throughout history.”
The Algerian Bank of Senegal and the EPE TASDIR SPA platform, a subsidiary of the Algerian Export Fair Association (SAFEX), comprising 54 companies, launched their activities in Dakar on September 21, 2023. Since the beginning of 2022, Algeria has also organized trade fairs in several African capitals, including Senegal, further solidifying the economic ties between the two nations.
