Algiers, Algeria | January 14th, 2025 — In a forceful response to the escalating provocative statements from Moroccan politician Abdelilah Benkirane, President of the El Bina Movement, Abdelkader Bengrina, has sharply criticized the former Moroccan Prime Minister, labeling him a “warmonger” and accusing him of fueling hostility against Algeria with reckless and incendiary rhetoric.

Bengrina’s statement, issued on Monday, comes in reaction to Benkirane’s recent claims suggesting Moroccan sovereignty over parts of southwestern Algeria—remarks the El Bina leader described as not only inflammatory but historically and legally baseless. He emphasized that even Morocco’s official institutions, including the royal establishment, had previously refrained from making such dangerous assertions.

Bengrina accused Benkirane of irresponsibly reviving colonial expansionist ideologies, drawing parallels between his statements and the conduct of the Zionist occupation, which routinely disregards international norms and territorial sovereignty. He noted that the inflammatory rhetoric mirrors Morocco’s historical pattern of undermining regional stability, citing past instances where Moroccan authorities had questioned the legitimacy of Mauritania as a sovereign state and persistently violated UN resolutions concerning Western Sahara.

The Algerian leader underscored the gravity of Benkirane’s comments, reminding the public of past inflammatory remarks from Justice and Development Party figures during the so-called Arab Spring, when they openly called for the fragmentation of Algeria. Bengrina highlighted that such provocations were met with firm rebuttals from Algeria, reaffirming the nation’s unity and sovereignty.

Bengrina went further, questioning the ideological alignment between Benkirane’s faction and external forces hostile to Algeria, particularly the Zionist entity and far-right factions in France. He accused Benkirane of consistently echoing narratives that seek to destabilize Algeria and erode its national cohesion.

Describing Benkirane’s statements as a desperate bid to reclaim relevance in Moroccan politics after his party’s significant decline, Bengrina pointed to Benkirane’s role in facilitating Morocco’s normalization with the Israeli occupation and weakening Moroccan national identity by promoting the use of the French language in education. He accused the former Prime Minister of prioritizing personal political resurgence over the interests of the Moroccan people.

Bengrina concluded by calling on Morocco’s rational and patriotic elites—those steadfastly opposed to normalization and committed to exposing the dangers of Moroccan-Israeli relations—to intervene and curb Benkirane’s reckless provocations. He urged them to defend genuine Moroccan interests by rejecting divisive rhetoric and advocating for justice in Palestine.

“The Moroccan people have seen through Benkirane’s hollow speeches. His political theatrics serve only to distract from the core socio-political issues affecting Morocco,” Bengrina affirmed, emphasizing that genuine leadership should focus on sovereignty, justice, and the rejection of colonial expansionism.
