ALGIERS- Thousands of Muslims in Algeria gathered at mosques nationwide to perform the prayer of Eid Al Fitr, or” Lesser Eid” that marks the end of Ramadan.
Preachers in their Eid sermons, following Eid prayers, addressed the devotees on the significance of this Eid, praising the gestures of solidarity and the intense spiritual atmosphere during the Holy month of Ramadan.
In their sermons, the Imams of the mosques stressed that “Eid El-Fitr is an opportunity for reconciliation, solidarity between the faithful and to perpetuate charitable actions.” They recalled, in this vein, that this feast is, also, an occasion for “the purification of the soul, far from all hatred and resentment to make prevail the precepts and the teachings of Islam.”
Following the prayers, thousands could be seen greeting fellow worshippers as well as relatives and friends.
