ALGIERS- The Minister of Fisheries and Fish Production, Ahmed Badani, oversaw, on Monday morning, the launch of the bluefin tuna fishing campaign at the port of Gouraya in Tipaza. The Minister announced that Algeria’s fishing quota for bluefin tuna has increased to 2,023 tons from 1,650 tons last year. This increase is expected to boost the public treasury by $27 million and increase Algeria’s exports.
The Minister emphasized that the government has prioritized increasing the income of the fishing sector, with 17 new projects set to come into effect. Badani explained that by 2024, Algeria is expected to produce 13,000 tons of bluefin tuna, a significant increase from the previous limit of 1,200 tons.
To ensure the safety of professionals, Badani also launched a maritime safety campaign that includes training for fishermen. He stressed the importance of civil society’s participation in the campaign.
The bluefin tuna fishing campaign is a crucial event for Algeria’s fishing industry, and the government is committed to supporting its growth. With increased quotas and new projects, the sector is poised for significant expansion, which will benefit both the industry and the country’s economy.
