Boughali Engages in High-Level Talks with Venezuelan Speaker in Caracas

Algiers, Algeria | January 12th, 2025 — Brahim Boughali, Speaker of Algeria’s People’s National Assembly (APN), held discussions with his Venezuelan counterpart, Jorge Rodriguez Gomez, on Saturday evening in Caracas, as part of his official representation of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune during the inauguration ceremony of re-elected Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro Moros.

This high-level diplomatic engagement, held at the Federal Palace, centered on the robust historical ties between Algeria and Venezuela and explored avenues for enhanced parliamentary collaboration. Boughali emphasized Algeria’s enduring solidarity with Venezuela, rooted in mutual respect, shared struggles, and a convergence of stances on pressing global issues, particularly unwavering support for the Palestinian and Sahrawi causes.

Expressing gratitude for the warm reception extended by Venezuelan authorities, Boughali reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation. He highlighted the need to activate diplomatic parliamentary mechanisms to foster strategic dialogue and coordinated action within international forums, including the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement.

Boughali underscored Algeria’s proactive role in global parliamentary diplomacy, announcing the forthcoming Afro-Arab-Latin American Parliamentary Forum, which the APN will host under Algeria’s presidency of the IPU. This initiative aims to strengthen multilateral dialogue among parliaments advocating shared values of sovereignty, justice, and cooperation.

For his part, Rodriguez lauded Algeria’s influential presence at the inauguration and acknowledged the proactive steps taken by Algerian authorities to reinforce bilateral relations. He stressed the strategic importance of parliamentary diplomacy in advancing mutual interests and praised Algeria’s initiative to establish a trilateral parliamentary forum, aligning with Venezuela’s vision for global South cooperation.

The meeting, attended by Algerian MPs and Venezuelan officials, underscored the shared commitment of both nations to fortify their historical partnership through dynamic parliamentary diplomacy and expanded economic collaboration.
