ALGIERS- The progress rate of construction work on the Larbaâtache sugar refinery located in the west of Boumerdès is estimated at more than 70%.
“The construction work of the sugar refinery has exceeded 70%, and it will be delivered before the end of 2023”, according to the presentation given, on Saturday, during a site visit conducted by a delegation of representatives from several ministries, responsible for monitoring the work of this project, along with the wali, Yahia Yahiatene, reported the APS agency.
According to the same presentation, the construction works of the plant spreading over an area of 14 ha, were relaunched after its acquisition by the Public Holding Management and Development of Assets and Resources “Madar“.
The projected production capacity of this refinery is 2,000 tons/day of different types of sugar, culminating in the creation of 1,200 jobs, including 550 direct jobs and 650 others indirect.
Its realization is part of the efforts made by the State to achieve self-sufficiency, with the prospect of moving to the export of surplus production, according to the same source.
Concerning the supply of the factory with raw material, the “Madar” Holding carried out “conclusive” trials in the South of the country, thanks to the cultivation of sugar beet, which in addition to constituting the raw material for sugar , will be used for the production of fodder for livestock and certain types of alcohol, according to the same explanations provided on site.
At the end of the visit, the host delegation, accompanied by the wali and the project managers, held a working session, during which a number of concerns related, among other things, to the operations of connecting the refinery to the miscellaneous networks (water, gas, electricity, sanitation and optical fiber) were addressed, in addition to the review of operations to develop the legal status of the company that owns the plant.
Madar Holding announced, on March 13, the creation of the sugar company Tafadis, for the refining, production and marketing of sugar. Its head office is located in Larbâatache, in the wilaya of Boumerdès. Its start-up capital was set at 10 billion dinars.
