ALGIERS– In a significant move towards fostering greater collaboration and inclusivity, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has extended a special invitation to all leaders of African countries to attend the upcoming BRICS summit. The summit, which is scheduled to take place next month in Johannesburg, South Africa, aims to promote accelerated growth, sustainable development, and inclusive multilateralism.

The announcement was made by Anil Sooklal, the BRICS Goodwill Ambassador for South Africa, during an interview with local radio station SABC on Thursday, July 6. Sooklal expressed President Ramaphosa’ strong commitment to engaging with the African continent and highlighted the importance of inviting African leaders to participate in the BRICS discussions.

With the inclusion of African heads of state, the BRICS summit will create a platform for fruitful exchanges, dialogue, and cooperation between BRICS nations – Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa – and African countries. This initiative underscores South Africa’s vision of strengthening ties between the BRICS nations and Africa, with a focus on achieving shared goals and advancing the collective prosperity of the participating nations.

President Ramaphosa’s decision to invite all African leaders reflects the country’s dedication to pursuing an inclusive approach in addressing global challenges and leveraging the potential of multilateralism. By bringing together leaders from diverse backgrounds, the summit aims to foster a comprehensive understanding of the unique needs and aspirations of the African continent, facilitating the formulation of targeted policies and initiatives.

The upcoming BRICS summit will provide a platform for discussing pressing issues such as economic cooperation, infrastructure development, sustainable growth, technological innovation, and socio-economic challenges facing both the BRICS nations and African countries. By fostering greater collaboration and knowledge-sharing, the summit seeks to unlock new opportunities for trade, investment, and partnerships that can drive inclusive and sustainable development across the regions.
