British Foreign and Commonwealth Office renews position on Western Sahara cause

ALGIERS- (SPS) –The British Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has recently reaffirmed its position on the Western Sahara cause. The Office has expressed its unwavering support for the efforts aimed at finding a just and lasting solution that guarantees the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination.

This announcement was made in response to a question posed by Mr. Navendu Prabhat Mishra, a member of the Parliamentary Friendship Committee with the Saharawi People, to the British Minister of Foreign Affairs, Commonwealth and Development. Mr. Mishra inquired about the recent diplomatic steps taken by the Office to help resolve the conflict in Western Sahara.

In a written reply, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office affirmed that the United Kingdom is committed to supporting efforts to find a just, lasting, and acceptable solution that includes self-determination for the people of Western Sahara. The Office also reiterated the UK’ support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General’s envoy to Western Sahara, Mr. Staffan de Mistura, by engaging key partners to encourage constructive participation in the political process.
