Algiers, Algeria | May 26, 2024 — The public prosecutor at the Laghouat Tribunal has disclosed new information concerning a murder attempt that was broadcast live on social media.
A statement from the public prosecutor’s office read: “In accordance with the provisions of Article 11 of the Criminal Procedure Code, the Public Prosecutor at the Laghouat Tribunal informs the public that on May 22, 2024, a video was circulated on social media showing a woman being stabbed with a knife.”
The statement further detailed that “on the same day, an individual named (Q.A.), the victim’s brother, approached the security services of Laghouat Wilaya (Province) to report that he had attacked his sister using a bladed weapon. He was subsequently arrested for investigation.”
Law enforcement authorities promptly arrived at the victim’s residence, and she was transported to the hospital for treatment. The victim underwent surgery, and her health condition is currently stable, according to the prosecutor’s office.
On May 26, the suspect was brought before the public prosecutor, and a judicial investigation was opened against him for the felony of attempted premeditated murder. Following questioning by the investigating judge, an order for his temporary detention was issued.
