Algiers, Algeria | February 26th, 2025 — After more than two decades of diplomatic wrestling, Morocco finds itself in the throes of severe exhaustion, having placed all its bets on a faltering France and the remnants of the Zionist Haganah gangs. King Mohammed VI’s policies have been marked by irrational chauvinism, distorting the kingdom’s future relations with its neighbors and regional partners. His so-called “outstretched hand” has turned into a guillotine severing any natural rapprochement between the Moroccan people and their neighbors, as he stubbornly conditions relations on the international recognition of Morocco’s illegitimate claims over Western Sahara—an issue categorized by the United Nations as a decolonization matter since the early 1960s.
Morocco’s reckless diplomatic maneuvers have ultimately led to its isolation on both regional and continental levels, a reality starkly evident in the country’s diminishing representation in global forums. The kingdom, once a contender in Africa’s diplomatic landscape, now finds itself sidelined and exploited by neo-colonial powers, namely France and the Zionist entity, who continue to plunder Moroccan resources with the blatant complicity of the Makhzen. Meanwhile, the continent’s key players continue to solidify their international standing. The most recent G20 meetings in Johannesburg, which saw the participation of five influential African nations—including Algeria—served as a clear acknowledgment of these countries’ pivotal role on the continental stage. Algeria’s presence at the summit, represented by Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf, was anything but incidental. The country had already secured its place in global decision-making arenas, as evidenced by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa’s invitation to Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune during his historic address to the Algerian Parliament in December 2024.
Morocco’s descent into diplomatic irrelevance dates back to 1974, when it occupied Western Sahara following the collapse of Spanish colonial rule. The kingdom, having plunged itself into a battle against the Sahrawi resistance, has suffered successive blows on the continental front. A glaring example of this decline was on full display at the recent African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, where Algeria secured the Vice Presidency of the African Union Commission, while Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita’s visibly dejected demeanor spoke volumes about his country’s diplomatic downfall.
Morocco’s delusions of grandeur have left it battered and weakened, unable to construct a credible international stature. Its exclusion from major global summits underscores its marginalization as an unreliable and destabilizing force in Africa. Algeria, by contrast, has methodically strengthened its position as a strategic partner through a steadfast, principled diplomatic approach grounded in credibility, resilience, and mutual interests. This strategic foresight was recognized with President Tebboune’s participation in the G7 Summit in Italy in June 2024, further solidifying Algeria’s standing among the world’s most influential nations.
Morocco’s exclusion from the first-ever G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Africa—attended by Ethiopia, Nigeria, Angola, Egypt, and Algeria—further highlights the ongoing reshaping of the African geopolitical landscape. This summit was a clear endorsement of Africa’s rising powers that contribute meaningfully to regional stability and economic development, in stark contrast to Morocco’s disruptive and colonial-era ambitions.
Ultimately, the kingdom’s reckless diplomatic gambits have driven it into a state of self-imposed isolation, entrenching it deeper into an alliance with Zionist and neo-colonial forces. Despite its past attempts to integrate into the Gulf Cooperation Council while simultaneously undermining the Maghreb Union, Morocco now finds itself directionless—failing to secure any meaningful alliances and left clinging to outdated political fantasies.
Further underscoring this diplomatic failure was the debacle at the so-called “Marrakech Conference,” held just days ago. The event, tainted by the presence of an Zionist delegation led by Transport Minister Miri Regev—a former spokesperson for the Zionist military notorious for her racist statements against Palestinians—saw multiple delegations, including those from Jordan, Egypt, Ireland, and Turkey, walk out in protest. The Makhzen’s servility to its Zionist patrons was painfully evident as Moroccan authorities provided unprecedented security measures for the Zionist minister, a move that further alienated Morocco from its own people. Public outrage over the invitation of the Israeli minister was a clear testament to the kingdom’s growing internal fractures and international irrelevance.
In the end, Morocco stands alone—defeated, marginalized, and mired in the quicksand of its own making. Its stubborn refusal to acknowledge political realities and its insistence on aligning with neo-colonial and Zionist agendas have only deepened its isolation. While Africa moves forward, Morocco remains stuck in a losing battle against history, diplomacy, and the undeniable march of progress.
