Canadian House of Commons Speaker Greg Fergus Emphasizes Importance of Strengthening Algerian-Canadian Relations

Algiers, April 25, 2024 – During his visit to Algiers, Greg Fergus, Speaker of the Canadian House of Commons, emphasized the significance of advancing relations between Algeria and Canada as the two countries celebrate the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic connection.
Following his meeting with President Tebboune, Fergus described his visit to Algeria as “productive,” stressing the necessity of strengthening bilateral relations. He pointed out that his discussions with the President covered “several topics of interest to Algeria and Canada, as they commemorate the 60th anniversary of their relationship, characterized by friendship and exchanges in culture and economy.” Fergus highlighted that “bilateral exchanges contribute significantly to enhancing bilateral relations.”
In his conversations with President Tebboune, Fergus addressed the contribution of the Algerian community in Canada, recognizing their “culture and creativity.”
Fergus’s visit to Algeria provided him with the opportunity to engage with political leaders, businesspersons, academics, researchers, and members of civil society, all striving for the progress and welfare of Algeria.
Moreover, Fergus expressed deep sentiment during his visit to the Martyrs’ Memorial earlier in the day, where he laid a wreath in honor of “the martyrs who laid down their lives for the independence of this esteemed nation.”
