Candidates Rally for Voter Engagement: Tebboune, Aouchiche, and Hassani Cherif Champion Democracy, Reform

Algiers, Algeria | August 24th, 2024 — The political climate is increasingly charged as candidates and their backers escalate their efforts to engage voters and promote their platforms. Supporters of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune have been vigorously promoting his re-election bid, emphasizing the continuity of his administration’s initiatives. Tahar Benbaïbeche, leader of the El-Fadjr El-Djadid party, orchestrated a rally in Jijel to galvanize voter support for Tebboune, underscoring his administration’s commitment to completing ongoing projects and safeguarding Algeria’s sovereignty amidst fiscal stability. Similarly, Abdelkrim Benmbarek, Secretary General of the National Liberation Front (FLN), championed Tebboune’s “ambitious” developmental agenda, which he contends has benefited various sectors and social groups, thereby necessitating steadfast public endorsement.

Other significant figures in the political arena, such as Mustapha Yahi of the National Democratic Rally (RND) and Abdelkader Bengrina from the El-Bina Movement, have lent their support in Bouira and Timimoun, emphasizing the tangible socio-economic gains achieved during Tebboune’s first term as a compelling reason for continued backing.

Hassani Cherif: Advocating for National Unity and Democratic Values

Conversely, Abdelaali Hassani Cherif of the Society for Peace Movement (MSP) has underscored the election’s significance as a “crucial national milestone” during his address at the Forum El Moudjahid. Hassani Cherif called for widespread voter engagement to bolster national cohesion and democratic principles. His campaign is built on the concept of “Forsa” (Opportunity), which promotes a socially equitable economy and focuses on addressing youth concerns. He has also proposed reforms to professional statutes and the establishment of a parliamentary regime to enhance checks and balances and ensure greater executive accountability.

Aouchiche’s Low Profile

Youcef Aouchiche of the Socialist Forces Front (FFS) has notably advocated for significant political and institutional reforms aimed at fostering a more transparent and democratic political system.

With the presidential election rapidly approaching, the call for a substantial voter turnout reflects the candidates’ urgent appeal to shape Algeria’s future.
