ALGIERS- Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, Ali Aoun, shed light on the cement industry, highlighting an excess production of 20 million tons per year.
During an interview with Indjazat magazine, Aoun elaborated that an ongoing study within the state-owned cement group, GICA, aims to install mills in several African countries to boost cement exports.
Turning to the pharmaceutical industry, he emphasized the significance of investment projects in oncology and insulin. Aoun projected that these initiatives would increase domestic production to cover 80 to 85% of the country’s needs, up from the current 70 to 73%.
Revival of Seized Assets and Properties
Addressing the revival of assets and properties seized by court order, Aoun stressed concerted efforts to reactivate industrial sites in question.
One such endeavor involves EPE Kotama Agrifood under MADAR Holding, slated to produce crude oil and animal feed. Additionally, EPE Mahroussa, under Agrodiv Holding, currently produces table oil and is poised to diversify into sauces, mayonnaise, and soap production, contributing significantly to market regulation.
Aoun also highlighted EPE Tafadis, affiliated with Madar Holding, situated in the Larbaatache Industrial Zone (Boumerdès), which aims to produce refined and raw sugar as part of a new project.
Furthermore, ALFAPIPE, under Imetal Holding and located in Béthioua (Oran), will resume operations to manufacture spiral steel tubes for water and hydrocarbon transportation.
