ALGIERS- The Ministry of the Interior, Local Authorities and Urban Planning has set up a central unit to monitor and manage the consequences of severe weather conditions. This decision was made in response to the recent bad weather that has affected several wilayas in the central and eastern regions of the country. The central cell will be responsible for continuous monitoring of the situation and prompt management of the consequences of these weather conditions in coordination with relevant bodies and services.

The Ministry has reported that a 7-year-old girl is missing in the wilaya of Guelma, and search operations are still ongoing. Additionally, 27 African nationals were evacuated by civil protection elements due to flooding of the wadis in the same wilaya. Material damage has also been recorded, and road traffic has been disrupted in some wilayas.

The Ministry assures the public that all local services have been mobilized to manage the material damage and ensure a return to normalcy. Citizens are urged to exercise prudence and vigilance and comply with safety instructions.

The establishment of this central unit is a measure to ensure the safety and well-being of citizens during severe weather conditions. The Ministry is committed to providing timely and effective responses to any challenges that may arise.
