Acting on behalf of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Army Chief General Saïd Chanegriha officially installs Brigadier General Sid Ahmed Bourommana, urging vigilance against hostile agendas and reaffirming the military’s unwavering commitment to national unity and stability.

Algiers, Algeria | April 19th, 2025 —  General of the Army Saïd Chanegriha, Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defence and Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (ANP), officially installed Brigadier General Sid Ahmed Bourommana as Acting Commander of the National Gendarmerie. The ceremony was held Saturday at the Gendarmerie Command headquarters in Algiers, under the authority of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defence.

Brigadier General Bourommana succeeds Major General Yahia Ali Oulhadj, in accordance with Presidential Decree dated April 14, 2025. Addressing the officers and personnel of the Gendarmerie during the official handover ceremony, General Chanegriha emphasized, “In the name of the President of the Republic, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Minister of National Defence, and in line with the Presidential decree, I officially install Brigadier General Sid Ahmed Bourommana as Interim Commander of the National Gendarmerie. I hereby instruct you to act under his authority, execute his orders, and adhere strictly to military regulations and the laws of the Republic.”

He further enjoined the ranks to remain ever faithful to the memory of Algeria’s martyrs and the ideals of the glorious liberation revolution.

Following the ceremony, General Chanegriha convened a high-level meeting with senior Gendarmerie officers, where he delivered a compelling directive that focused on the sacred duty of defending the homeland against multifaceted threats. “Ensuring enduring security and stability across the national territory is one of the paramount challenges confronting every loyal son of Algeria. Achieving this mission is a collective national responsibility that we, in the People’s National Army, under the leadership of the President of the Republic, remain fully committed to accomplishing—faithful to the message of our martyrs and in defiance of those who conspire against the Algerian people.”

General Chanegriha did not mince words in identifying the persistent threats facing Algeria. “This country has long been—and will continue to be—a target for its adversaries. These enemies have never accepted Algeria’s independence, nor have they digested the strength of our national unity, our deep-rooted social cohesion, and the unbreakable bond between the people and their army.”

He added, “They are enraged by the steadfastness of Algerians in defending the revolutionary legacy that helped dismantle colonialism. These malicious actors do not want to see Algeria united, proud of its history, or advancing economically, socially, and scientifically. They certainly do not want to see an Algeria that is fortified, sovereign, and empowered on the world stage.”

General Chanegriha stressed that the armed forces remain vigilant and determined. “We in the People’s National Army, in coordination with all loyal patriots, will continue to uphold Algeria’s dignity and the honor of its people. We will strengthen our deterrent capabilities to confront anyone who dares threaten Algeria’s sovereignty, security, or economic potential.”
