ALGIERS- Montreal’s airport witnessed widespread chaos, attributing it to Royal Air Maroc (RAM) after numerous passengers reported the loss of their luggage. In a saga labeled the “lost baggage epic” by Canadian media, Montreal Airport has summoned the Moroccan national carrier to address the situation.

According to well-informed sources reported by “Dzair Tube,” dozens of passengers filed complaints about their inability to retrieve their luggage, with some finding their personal belongings in deplorable conditions.

Following the media reports on the baggage fiasco at Montreal Airport, the airport administration took the step to summon Royal Air Maroc, the airline responsible for the predicament.

In an official statement, Montreal Airports Company highlighted that operational challenges at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca led to significant delays in directing and delivering baggage by Royal Air Maroc. This backlog resulted in a substantial accumulation of luggage at the airport facilities.

The Canadian company attempted to negotiate and resolve the situation with the Moroccan carrier, but to no avail. The situation compelled them to take the exceptional measure of storing the luggage in a location separate from the airport premises.

The statement clarified that this decision was specifically made for health reasons, as “foul odors emanated from several bags.” Once customs clearance was completed, Royal Air Maroc opted to transport the baggage from the airport site to their designated storage location.

Expressing regret, the Canadian company criticized Royal Air Maroc for not adequately informing passengers and failing to take necessary measures for the transportation of their baggage.

Despite Montreal Airport’s attempts to coordinate with the Moroccan carrier, Royal Air Maroc did not respond to interview requests, maintaining that they witnessed some disruptions in baggage delivery since January 11.

The Canadian company emphasized that passengers who have been unable to reclaim their luggage for three weeks are entitled to seek compensation from Royal Air Maroc.
