Triumphant Launch of Chinese ‘Chery’ People’s Car in Algeria Garners Unprecedented Media Coverage with Two Ministers in Attendance

ALGIERS- In a grand unveiling event at the Sablettes Promenade in Algiers, Chinese automaker Chery, the people’s car, showcased its ambitious foray into the Algerian automotive market by introducing seven new models set to hit the Algerian roads. The lineup includes the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro (Grand SUV), Tiggo 8 Pro Max (Grand SUV), Tiggo 7 Pro (Grand SUV), Tiggo 4 Pro (SUV), Tiggo 2 Pro (Urban SUV), Arrizo 5 (Sedan), and Arrizo 6 (Sedan).

Algeria Celebrates Historic Launch of “Chery” Chinese Car Brand

The Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, Ali Aoun, and the Minister of Trade and Export Promotion, Tayeb Zitouni, jointly inaugurated the official marketing of the Chinese car brand “Chery” in Algiers. The presence of both ministers, alongside a substantial gathering of journalists, underscored the profound significance of this occasion, marking a groundbreaking milestone in Algeria’s automotive landscape.

This launch is not merely the introduction of a new brand but a transformative moment that reflects the government’s commitment to fostering diversity and innovation within the Algerian automotive market. The collaboration between the Ministry of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production and the Ministry of Trade and Export Promotion highlights a strategic approach to boosting the automotive sector and enhancing the choices available to Algerian consumers.

As the first-of-its-kind event, the launch of “Chery” in Algeria is poised to reshape the dynamics of the automotive industry, offering a diverse range of high-quality vehicles. The ministers’ active involvement signals the government’s endorsement of this venture and its recognition of the potential impact on the local economy.

In detail, the exhibition showcased an impressive array of cars, encompassing a total of 15 distinct types and featuring 7 different models. These models included the Tiggo 2 Pro, available in three variations, the Tiggo 4, also available in three variations, the Tiggo 7, available in two variations, the Tiggo 8, available in two variations, the Arrizo 5, available in two variations, and the Arrizo 8, available in two variations.

During the momentous announcement ceremony, one particular model stole the spotlight – the Tiggo 2 Pro Comfort 1.5L MT. This remarkable vehicle was presented to the audience, captivating their attention with its enticing price tag of 199 million cents and the seven-year warranty. Boasting a robust 1.5-liter gasoline engine, generating an impressive 107 horsepower, and equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission, this car truly exemplifies power and performance.

The Tiggo 2 Pro Comfort 1.5L MT, in particular, stood out as a testament to the brand’s dedication to providing an unparalleled driving experience. Its powerful engine, coupled with the seamless manual transmission, promises an exhilarating journey on the road. Moreover, the competitive pricing of this model further solidifies its appeal, making it an irresistible choice for those seeking both performance and value.

Affordable Quality for the Masses

Addressing the audience, Chery’s representative in Algeria, Aimen Cheriet, emphasized the affordability of their vehicles, specifically targeting the middle class. “This marks the best quality-price ratio. We have carefully studied the prices and models tailored for the Algerian market,” he declared. The move reflects Chery’s commitment to providing quality vehicles at accessible prices.

Noting that the prices of Chery cars commence at 199 million cents for the Tiggo 2 Pro model, while the Tiggo 8 Pro is priced at 539 million cents.

Additionally, Chery’s latest car models will be strategically marketed across 30 provinces through authorized distributors via the company’s representative « Auto Leader Company ».

The company also announced the marketing of hybrid models and electric cars.

Ministry Assures Industry Boom

Adding to the automotive excitement, Algeria’s Minister of Pharmaceutical Industry, Ali Aoun, confirmed that additional global automotive brands are set to establish a presence in Algeria soon.

Highlighting the significance of the year 2024, the minister emphasized that it will mark a turning point for the automobile industry in Algeria. He revealed that prominent automobile brands, with whom negotiations are underway, have expressed keen interest in the local market. The Algerian side is steadfast in its insistence that automobile manufacturers supply their products at reasonable prices.

“Major brands will establish themselves in Algeria by the end of this year and the beginning of the next. 2024 will be the year of the automotive industry in Algeria, witnessing the launch of several significant projects,” he assured.

 

Trade Minister Announces Identical Pricing for New Cars in Algeria

For his part, the Minister of Trade and Export Promotion, Tayeb Zitouni, has confirmed that the prices of new cars to be introduced in Algeria will be on par with those available abroad. In his address at the launch of Chery cars, Zitouni emphasized the emergence of a genuine automobile industry in Algeria.

During his speech, the spokesperson highlighted the previous car installation project as a misallocation of public funds and a deception of the people. It was revealed that certain interest groups had exerted pressure to import cars, while the government had been neglecting its responsibilities.

Zitouni further stated, “A total of 185,000 cars have been approved for import into Algeria, and this number is set to increase by 2024. This initiative has already generated 15,000 permanent jobs and 5,000 temporary positions.”

Expressing gratitude, the Minister of Commerce extended his thanks to Chery, the people’s car, for implementing a dedicated program to monitor car prices and oversee the entire marketing process, from factory to consumer.

The event is a testament to the brand’s commitment to delivering exceptional quality and innovation to its discerning customers. With a diverse range of models on display, each meticulously crafted to meet the unique needs and preferences of car enthusiasts, the exhibition left attendees in awe.

Chery’s Manufacturing Ambitions in Algeria

In a noteworthy development, Chery revealed plans to establish an automotive manufacturing facility in Bordj Bou Arreridj, emphasizing a preliminary production capacity of 24,000 units per year. Details of the project were presented during a meeting between Minister Ali Aoun and a delegation from Chery, led by Steve Chan, the General Director of Chery in Africa, and Aimen Cheriet, the Director of Chery in Algeria.

The manufacturing facility’s production capacity is slated to reach 100,000 vehicles by the third year of operation, with a strategic focus on creating an export platform in Algeria. This bold move aligns with Chery’s commitment to contributing to Algeria’s automotive landscape and fostering economic development.

Minister Aoun emphasized the importance of reasonable pricing for Algerian citizens, highlighting the need for a strong focus on after-sales services and strict adherence to regulatory standards. As Chery embarks on this automotive venture, it marks a significant chapter in Algeria’s automotive sector, promising a blend of global quality and local accessibility.
