China Commends Algeria’s Influential Role in Strengthening Regional and Global Peace

Algiers, Algeria | January 26th, 2025 — The People’s Republic of China has lauded Algeria for its pivotal contributions to reinforcing peace at regional and global levels, as well as for its unwavering support for just causes. The commendation was delivered by the Chinese Ambassador to Algeria, Dong Guangli, during a reception held on Thursday evening at the Moufdi Zakaria Palace of Culture in Algiers to celebrate the Chinese New Year.
In his address, Ambassador Guangli underscored Algeria’s significant standing as a prominent African, Arab, and Mediterranean nation, emphasizing its influential role in promoting peace and sustainable development. He hailed Algeria’s support for emerging nations and its principled stances within the United Nations Security Council as a non-permanent member, describing this commitment as “highly appreciated” by China.
Ambassador Guangli spotlighted the enduring and profound historical friendship between Algeria and China, tracing the roots of their bilateral relations back to shared struggles against colonialism. “The cooperative efforts of our two nations have not only strengthened their partnership but have also contributed to global peace and development,” he said.
Marking 67 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties, the ambassador highlighted that Algeria and China continue to nurture relations based on mutual trust, respect, and reciprocal support. “These ties exemplify a model of interstate relations,” he stated, adding that the two countries’ collaboration has deepened in recent years across multiple domains.
The ambassador also reflected on the landmark meeting in July 2023 between Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Chinese President Xi Jinping during President Tebboune’s state visit to China. The high-profile encounter laid the groundwork for an ambitious roadmap to elevate Sino-Algerian relations. Ambassador Guangli noted that this meeting had cemented the two nations’ shared vision for comprehensive cooperation, further solidifying their alliance on the global stage.
Highlighting Algeria’s active role in defending the rights of emerging nations, the ambassador praised the country’s principled foreign policy as a beacon of hope in a turbulent world. “Algeria’s steadfast commitment to championing just causes and its efforts to bridge divides are exemplary, and China stands as a resolute ally in supporting these noble pursuits,” he affirmed.
