Chinese Ambassador Praises Historic Alliance with Algeria A Legacy of Strategic Cooperation and Deep-rooted Friendship

Algiers, Algeria | January 15th, 2025 — The newly appointed Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Algeria, Dong Guangli, has reaffirmed the enduring historical ties and strategic partnership uniting China and Algeria, emphasizing Algeria’s pioneering role as the first Arab state to establish a comprehensive strategic partnership with China.

During a formal ceremony held Tuesday at the Chinese Embassy in Algiers, attended by Yang Wanming, President of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), Ambassador Dong described China and Algeria as “natural partners” bonded by a legacy of solidarity and collaboration. He highlighted Algeria’s historic support for China, recalling how it was among the first nations to recognize the Provisional Government of the Algerian Republic (GPRA) during Algeria’s struggle for independence.

Ambassador Dong expressed profound gratitude for Algeria’s pivotal support in backing China’s successful reinstatement into the United Nations in 1971. He underscored several joint development projects as key illustrations of the fruitful cooperation between the two nations, stressing how such ventures reflect the strength of their bilateral relations.

Sino-Algerian Synergy in Africa and the Mediterranean

Ambassador Dong further referenced Chinese President Xi Jinping’s congratulatory message following the re-election of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune in September 2024. In his message, President Xi reiterated China’s steadfast commitment to bolstering mutual political trust, expanding essential cooperation, and unlocking new avenues of collaboration between the two nations.

Yang Wanming, head of the CPAFFC, also commended Algeria’s influential role in Africa and the Mediterranean region, hailing the deepening cooperation between the two countries as a model for international partnerships. He stressed the importance of fostering cultural and people-to-people exchanges, calling for the strengthening of bilateral visits and leveraging friendship associations to further solidify ties.

The event served as a reaffirmation of the profound and strategic alliance between Algeria and China, marked by mutual respect, shared development goals, and a commitment to global cooperation and solidarity.
