ALGIERS– The Chlef cement plant (ECDE), under the Algerian Cement Industrial Group (GICA), has exported nearly 350,000 tons of clinker since the beginning of the current year, said, on Tuesday in Oran, the CEO of the company, Kada Dinar.
“This quantity of clinker was exported to countries in Europe, Africa and Latin America from the two ports of Tenès (Chlef) and Oran,” he explained, indicating that the cement plant of Chlef aims this year to export 2 million tonnes of this product to several European, African and Latin American countries. He recalled that during the past year, 1,500,000 tons of clinker were exported.
In addition, the Cimenterie aspires, this year, to export 1 million tons of cement to European and African countries, further explained Mr. Dinar, indicating that his company “is ready to export cement to Turkey and Syria after the violent earthquake that hit both countries recently”.
Noting that GICA’s Chlef cement plant has three cement production lines with a total capacity of 4,200,000 tonnes per year, in addition to clinker.
GICA Group: ECDC obtains certificate of conformity to European standards
The Cement and Derivatives Company of Ech-Chéliff (ECDE), a subsidiary of the Algerian Cement Industrial Group (GICA), has obtained the certificate of conformity to European standards for the cement it produces, which will facilitate its access to external markets, said a press release from the Ministry of Industry on Tuesday.
The certificate of conformity concerns four types of cement, including three Portland limestone cements, namely; GICA BETON (42.5 N), GICA BENIAN (32.5 N) and GICA INDJAZAT (52.5 N), and a fourth type of Portland cement resulting from grinding of clinker and calcium sulphate, namely GICA MOUDHAD (42.5 N/SR5), the statement added.
Certificates of conformity to European standards are issued by the French Association for Standardization (AFNOR), according to the same source.
In July 2022, the Aïn Kebira cement plant in the wilaya of Sétif (subsidiary of GICA) obtained a certificate of conformity to European standards for three types of cement. The subsidiary had previously (July 2019) obtained the American Petroleum Institute (API) certificate of compliance with standards for the production of petroleum cement used in the hydrocarbon sector.
These certificates facilitate the access of GICA products to external markets, particularly European ones, as part of the group’s export strategy aimed at strengthening its international presence, the statement said.
