ALGIERS- The Tayal textile complex, located in the industrial zone of Sidi Khettab (wilaya of Relizane), signed, Monday in Algiers, four contracts and memoranda of understanding with representatives of international clothing brands in Algeria for their manufacturing locally.
The signing ceremony took place on the sidelines of the official opening of the National Exhibition of Textile Products, Clothing and Footwear, organized at the Palais des Expositions until April 19, in the presence of the Minister of Trade and Export Promotion, Tayeb Zitouni.
The contracts and memoranda of understanding were signed by Tayal CEO Tarek Ekerbischer with General Manager of MDS Textile Company, Mustapha Lia, Representative of General Manager of Tex Word, Nesrine Amrane, General Manager of the company Investex Algeria, Mohamed Reda Lia, and representatives of the company Azadea Algeri, Badreddine Ali and Mohamed Daoudi.
It should be noted that MDS Textile is the representative of the brands Undiz, Etam, Mango and Maison 123. The company Tex Word represents the brands Okaidi, Gifi, Topix and Devred 1902. Investex Algérie holds the franchise for the brands Celio and Maison 123, Jennifer and LC Waikiki.
During a press briefing, the Minister of Trade and Export Promotion indicated that these international brands will manufacture their clothes in Algeria for the first time.
“Currently, 56 economic operators are active in the import for resale of international brands. We have agreed with these operators to manufacture the clothes of these brands in Algeria,” he said, assuring that the raw material is available in Algeria and will be supplied by Tayal.
According to Mr. Zitouni, “this will make it possible to generate jobs and create wealth and it will contribute to the transfer of technology to Algeria”. “As is done in neighboring countries, we are able to manufacture these brands in Algeria,” he said, believing that it is possible to extend this industry to other international brands in order to “reduce the import bill” and “consolidate national production”.
Last February, Decathlon signed a cooperation protocol with Tayal to manufacture items in Algeria.
