ALGIERS- The National Human Rights Council (CNDH) has issued a statement condemning the European Parliament’s recent resolution against Algeria. The CNDH has called the resolution a “shameless interference” in the country’ sovereign affairs.

The resolution has caused an outcry in Algeria and abroad, and the CNDH has accused the EP of placing pressure on the Algerian judiciary by citing individual cases of detainees awaiting trial. The CNDH has also accused the EP of violating the principle of the independence of the magistrate, which is enshrined in the Algerian Constitution. The CNDH has called on the EP to use official channels, such as the association council or the joint parliamentary committee, to express its opinions on human rights issues in Algeria.

The CNDH has affirmed that Algeria is dedicated to promoting its diplomatic messages through tireless efforts to defend the rights of the vulnerable worldwide. This is achieved through organized frameworks and official bodies such as the UN Human Rights Council, where dialogue and debate are utilized to achieve these goals.

Furthermore, the CNDH is closely monitoring the evolution of press freedom in Algeria. In response to the fake news contained in the resolution, the CNDH has emphasized the importance of media spaces provided by the State and its various institutions to support media establishments. The President of the Republic has also demonstrated his commitment to strengthening guarantees of freedom of expression, as evidenced by his encouragement of freedom of the press on World Press Freedom Day. During this occasion, he personally chaired the welcoming ceremony of representatives from different media outlets and listened to divergent and converging opinions, guiding everyone to adhere to the legal system that protects journalists and the media.

In summary, Algeria is dedicated to promoting human rights and defending the vulnerable through organized frameworks and official bodies. The CNDH is closely monitoring the evolution of press freedom in Algeria and emphasizes the importance of media spaces provided by the State to support media establishments. The President of the Republic has demonstrated his commitment to strengthening guarantees of freedom of expression and protecting journalists and the media.
