ALGIERS- The 5th session of the Joint Algerian-Tanzanian Cooperation Commission commenced today at the International Conference Center, Abdelatif Rahal, in Algiers. Chaired by Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, and Tanzanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ms. Stergomena Tax, the session aims to further deepen the robust bilateral relations between the two nations and address pressing issues on the African continent.
In a preparatory meeting held yesterday, the two diplomatic leaders discussed several key issues related to Algerian-Tanzanian relations and the latest developments on both the continental and international stages. Notably, discussions centered around the evolving crises in Niger, Libya, Mali, and the Sahel region at large, as well as the matter of decolonization in Western Sahara.
Given the global nature of challenges, the repercussions of the ongoing crisis between Russia and Ukraine on Africa took center stage during the deliberations. Particular attention was given to the potential threats posed to the food and energy security of African nations.
Ambassador Selma Malika, Director General of the Africa Department at the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, expressed Algeria’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Tanzania in various domains, including diplomacy, trade, capacity building, training, research, higher education funding, and the expansion of cooperation into new areas as deemed necessary. Such endeavors are seen as crucial to building strong economies for both nations.
In addition to the diplomatic discussions, the meeting also paved the way for fruitful collaboration in the energy sector. The Acting Secretary General of the Algerian Ministry of Energy and Mines, Miloud Medjelled, met with Tanzanian Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy, Athumani Mbuttuka, to explore avenues for strengthening cooperation in the fields of hydrocarbons and electricity.
During their meeting, the two delegations explored potential joint ventures related to crude oil and refined products, hydrocarbon and petroleum product storage, and transport. Moreover, they delved into investment opportunities in engineering, power generation, power grid development, public natural gas distribution, training, and renewable energy.
The Algerian-Tanzanian partnership extends beyond energy, encompassing various sectors such as business, industry, agriculture, infrastructure, mining, tourism, art and culture, education, science and technology, defense and security, politics and diplomacy, communication, fisheries, investment, and community development.
With both nations sharing a commitment to fostering sustainable growth, these comprehensive collaborations are set to drive economic progress and stability in the region. The 5th session of the Algerian-Tanzanian Joint Commission marks a milestone in the history of this enduring partnership and serves as a testament to the mutual desire to build a brighter future for Africa.
