Commemoration of 62nd Anniversary of Algerian Police: Minister Merad Honors Legacy, Reaffirms Commitment

Algiers, Algeria | July 22nd, 2024 —  On the occasion of the 62nd anniversary of the establishment of the Algerian Police, Brahim Merad, the Minister of the Interior, Local Authorities, and Urban Planning, presided over a solemn commemorative ceremony held at the headquarters of the Republican Security Units (URS) in El-Hamiz, Dar El-Beida. The event, themed “With the Same Determination and Perseverance… We Continue the Process,” was attended by Boualem Boualem, Director of Cabinet at the Presidency of the Republic, and several government ministers.

A Tribute to Fallen Heroes

Minister Merad and his delegation were warmly received by Ali Badaoui, the General Director of National Security. The ceremony featured a poignant tribute as Minister Merad supervised the renaming of the URS headquarters in honor of the late moudjahid Mohamed Guenifed. Guenifed, a notable figure in Algeria’s history, was a distinguished member of the National Liberation Army, a former Director General of National Security, Minister of Equipment, and Director General of Algerian Customs. He passed away in April 2017 at the age of 79.

Paying Respects

During the ceremony, Minister Merad laid a wreath of flowers at the memorial and recited the Fatiha, a traditional Islamic prayer, in tribute to Mohamed Guenifed’s contributions and enduring legacy. This act of reverence highlighted the profound respect and ongoing remembrance for those who have significantly shaped Algeria’s law enforcement institutions.

The anniversary celebration not only reflected on the rich history and accomplishments of the Algerian police but also reaffirmed their commitment to national security and public service.
