Communication Minister Laagab Highlights Financial Challenges, Calls for Increased Funding

ALGIERS- During a presentation before the Finance Committee of the People’s National Assembly, Communication Minister Mohamed Laagab disclosed that 99.62% of the allocated budget for the communication sector in 2021 has been utilized.
The minister emphasized that the communication sector is in need of additional funds. However, he pointed out a challenge within the sector—the results of the funds spent are not immediately apparent. Due to the intangible nature of most expenditures, such as contributing to awareness, news dissemination, and program production, tangible outcomes take time. The minister highlighted the difficulty in accounting and monitoring, stating that the results of spending in 2021 might only become evident in 2031.
