Algiers, Algeria | June 6th, 2024 — The twinning project initiated in 2023 by the Commissioner for Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency (CEREFE) with a German-Dutch consortium to enhance institutional and professional capacities at the Commissioner’s office will officially conclude this Thursday, as announced by a press release from CEREFE.

To commemorate this milestone, a closing seminar for the twinning project will convene in Algiers, graced by the presence of Commissioner Noureddine Yassaa, representatives from the Prime Minister’s office, various ministries and institutions, ambassadors from the European Union (EU), particularly from Germany and the Netherlands, as well as experts, the statement added.

This twinning project was forged with a German-Dutch consortium comprising the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK), represented by the German Energy Agency (DENA) with the backing of the University of Bremen (HS Bremen), alongside the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) bolstered by the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate.

A component of the “Facility for Supporting the Priorities of the Partnership between Algeria and the EU” (FAPP) program, this project seeks to bolster the implementation of five partnership priorities, including priority “III” spotlighting energy partnership, environment, and sustainable development, with a specific focus on supporting renewable energy development policies.

Enduring for 18 months with a budget of 800,000 euros, this project has fortified CEREFE’s capacity as “a cross-sectoral institution and a pivotal actor contributing to national and sectoral advancement of renewable energies and energy efficiency,” as articulated in the press release.

Furthermore, it has instigated “structural shifts and essential reforms to inaugurate an equitable, systematic, and progressive transition towards a sustainable and resilient energy paradigm tailored to national idiosyncrasies,” underscored CEREFE.

“This endeavor has equally served as a vital instrument for institutional convergence, knowledge exchange, and expertise transfer within a sustainable collaboration and strategic alliance between CEREFE and DENA/RVO, alongside German and Dutch peer institutions in the realms of renewable energies, energy efficiency, sustainable mobility, and renewable hydrogen,” the statement further highlighted.

Throughout its implementation, numerous training sessions and interactive workshops helmed by domain experts were convened with the active involvement of CEREFE members and pertinent sectors and institutions, ensuring that “all objectives ascribed to this project have been realized,” affirmed the press release.
