ALGIERS– In a recent revelation, it has been substantiated that Dzair Tube’s statement regarding Fouzi Lekjaa, the President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, meddling in African football affairs, was confirmed when a journalist confronted the Head of CAF.
During the press conference, the journalist directly inquired with CAF President Patrice Motsepe about the extent of Fouzi Lekjaa’s sway in African football, asking, “There are numerous reports suggesting that Lekjaa is the one is taking the realm of everything within the CAF” In response, the CAF President stated, “It is entirely erroneous for Fouzi Lekjaa or any other individual to assume control of matters within CAF.”
However, recent developments suggest otherwise. The announcement of the countries selected to organize the African Cup of Nations (CAN) has raised suspicions about Lekjaa’s involvement. Morocco’ successful bid to host the tournament has ignited speculation that Lekjaa wields significant influence within CAF, potentially even through a network akin to a mafia.
The questionable nature of Morocco’s victory in hosting the CAN raises concerns about the direction African football is heading. Is it plausible that the countries selected to host the tournament possess better stadiums and facilities than Algeria? Such a notion appears improbable, especially when considering that Algeria has a rich footballing history and infrastructure. The fact that these countries were hosting matches on foreign soil adds to the skepticism surrounding the decision-making process.
The recurring scandals that have plagued African football have prompted questions about who truly benefits from these decisions. Fouzi Lekjaa has emerged as a central figure in these controversies, despite lacking the credentials of a seasoned sports administrator. The public is left wondering when these scandals will come to an end, especially when the key players seem to lack oversight and accountability.
