ALGIERS- Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, stated on Tuesday that the issue of the confiscation of Algerian embassy property in Morocco is now considered “closed” following an appropriate decision taken by Morocco in response to Algeria’s actions.
Speaking at a press conference at the ministry’s headquarters, Attaf affirmed, “This issue was raised by the Moroccans, and we responded, leading Morocco to take a decision that we deem appropriate, thus closing the matter.”
It is worth noting that Algeria had vehemently condemned, in a statement, “in the strongest terms” the proposed confiscation of the premises of the Algerian State Embassy in Morocco and assured that the Algerian government “will respond to these provocations by any means it deems appropriate.”
The statement also underscored that “the Kingdom of Morocco has embarked on a new escalatory phase in its provocative behaviors towards Algeria,” and that “these new provocations have recently manifested through the project to confiscate the premises of the Algerian State Embassy in Morocco.”
Algeria views this as “an unspeakable violation of respect and the duty to protect diplomatic representations of sovereign states, which are sanctified by both international law and custom,” the same source added.
