ALGIERS- A Moroccan parliamentarian has revealed that the Ministry of Education, under the government’s directive, has removed lessons on the “Palestinian Cause” and the “Arab-‘Israeli’ Conflict” from the curriculum for middle school. Despite their significance and close ties to the Palestinian Cause, which is considered a national issue by the Moroccan people, these lessons have been omitted.
The parliamentarian, Hind Bennani, a member of the Justice and Development Group, criticized the removal in a written question addressed to the Minister of Education in Morocco. She questioned the criteria used in preparing the curriculum reference document and sought clarification on the reasons behind prioritizing certain lessons over others.
Bennani expressed astonishment at the exclusion of the “Palestinian Cause” and the “Arab-‘Israeli’ Conflict” from the curriculum, especially given the current situation in Palestine due to repeated attacks by the Zionist entity. She emphasized the importance of keeping these lessons, considering the pivotal role they play in instilling values among students.
Notably, this move follows Morocco’s normalization with the Zionist entity in December 2020. Recently, the Moroccan regime has intensified efforts to marginalize the Palestinian Cause, despite widespread support for it among the Moroccan populace, which vehemently rejects any association with the occupying Zionist entity.
In this context, security forces in Morocco have suppressed numerous protests condemning the relentless Zionist aggression on Gaza. These demonstrations also call for the annulment of normalization with the Zionist entity. The removal of a lesson on the Palestinian Cause from the curriculum adds to the tensions, with critics pointing out the seeming inconsistency in educational priorities, choosing to omit lessons of utmost importance while retaining others.
The Moroccan regime’s actions are in contrast to the sentiments expressed by the Moroccan people, who, since October 7, 2023, the start of the Zionist aggression on Gaza, have been participating in daily protests. These protests demonstrate solidarity with the Palestinian people and rejection of any Zionist presence in the Kingdom. Moroccans view these protests as a clear and explicit referendum on the absolute popular rejection of any ties with the occupying Zionist entity.
