The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, stressed Thursday in Rome the convergence of views between Algeria and Italy on a number of international issues, including the Libyan question and the situation in Tunisia.
During a press briefing he hosted with his Italian counterpart, Sergio Mattarella, President Tebboune reported “a total convergence of views between the two countries regarding Tunisia and the Libyan question”.
“We share Tunisia’s problems and we are ready to help find a solution”, said the President of the Republic.
“We are also ready to help more to guarantee the stability of Libya”, affirmed President Tebboune, considering that “beyond all the experiences of the United Nations, the Security Council and the friends of Libya, the only solution remains the elections which give voice to the Libyan people and allow the reconstruction of Libya on democratic bases”.
For his part, Mattarella underlined the convergence of views between the two countries on the Libyan file, insisting on “the support of efforts made by the United Nations to bring about a meeting between the Libyan parties, with a view to resolving all problems and organize elections on a democratic basis”.
With regard to Tunisia, the Italian President indicated that the emphasis had been placed on the need to “succeed in laying the foundations of democracy, through elections and to work towards the achievement of economic stability in order to face of the great difficulties facing Tunisia”.
For Mattarella, Algeria and Italy have the same position and have no particular interests, their only interest being the support of the Tunisian and Libyan peoples.
