ALGIERS, February 14, 2024 – Nabil Benabdallah, Secretary-General of the Socialist Party “Progress and Socialism,” warned of the growing threat of money in Moroccan politics, stating that corrupt elements entering elected institutions with money pose a real danger to the nation. He emphasized the clear responsibilities of political parties in addressing this issue.

Speaking at a party meeting in Oujda over the weekend, Benabdallah remarked, “The mere fact that we witness certain scandals confirms the need to review this approach and reconcile Moroccans with politics, parties, political work, elected officials, and representative institutions.”

Highlighting the widespread corruption associated with money and ethical deviations, Benabdallah noted the growing gap between the people, especially the youth, and politics. He expressed concern that all political parties are being lumped together due to these issues, which he described as the most dangerous situation.

The Secretary-General emphasized the alarming reality of having seemingly elected institutions while the actual engagement of Moroccan citizens with these institutions remains hindered and absent.

Benabdallah stressed the importance of forming a competent government composed of individuals capable of entering the political sphere to defend public interests and fundamental principles, rather than protecting themselves from corrupt practices.

He criticized those who enter elected institutions to expand their financial capabilities, citing it as a real danger to the country.

Benabdallah concluded by highlighting the role of a strong political government in addressing democratic flaws and crises in politics, warning of dire consequences if such issues are not tackled, potentially leading to a crisis by 2026.
