Council of Nation’s Stern Response to Makhzen: “Morocco’s Pitiful Expansionism”

ALGIERS- The expanded bureau of the Council of the Nation convened to address the bellicose and irresponsible actions of the Kingdom of Morocco, particularly concerning its project to seize property belonging to the Algerian state.
Describing Morocco’s conduct as reflective of a pitifully expansionist political agenda, the Council of the Nation condemned the shameful aggression as emblematic of a period of moral decline and weakness in Moroccan discourse and behavior. It called upon the entity behind this blatant intention to rein in its irrational and unbalanced emotions, emphasizing an absolute rejection of any violation of Algerian diplomatic representations under any pretext, in line with international law and the Vienna Convention.
Algeria vehemently condemned the confiscation project in the strongest terms, asserting its intention to respond to such provocations through appropriate means. Political parties and national organizations joined in denouncing the confiscation, labeling it as shameful, provocative, and contrary to international laws and conventions.
In addition to the Senate’s response, Mr. Salah Goudjil chaired an expanded meeting of the Council of the Nation’s bureau, discussing parliamentary agenda items for the period from March 25th to April 2nd, 2024. This included reviewing oral and written questions submitted to the Parliament’s bureau, as well as proposals from the Parliament’s permanent committees. The meeting also confirmed the membership of a new parliamentary member under the presidential third.
The meeting commenced with commemoration of the 62nd anniversary of Victory Day, emphasizing March 19th, 1962, as a triumph over colonialism and a testament to the Algerian Revolution’s resilience and sacrifice. The Council expressed pride in the martyrs and mujahideen, extending condolences to Parliament members for the souls of the martyrs and their followers.
Furthermore, the Council celebrated the stability in commodity supply and various consumer products during the holy month of Ramadan, commending the authorities’ attention to maintaining the Algerian people’s purchasing power and appreciating the patriotic sentiment and responsibility demonstrated by economic partners.
Regarding the Parliament’s upcoming agenda, sessions are scheduled to resume from the morning of March 25th to April 2nd, 2024, focusing on three bills: amending and supplementing the Penal Code, the cinematographic industry bill, and the budget settlement bill for 2021.
On the international stage, amidst the ongoing suffering of the brave Palestinian people under colonial occupation, the Council reaffirmed Algeria’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause. It pledged continued advocacy for justice and the cessation of Zionist aggression until the awaited victory for our Palestinian brothers is achieved.
