Counterterrorism, fight against organized crime (April 05-11): Distinct operations with qualitative results- Full communiqué

ALGIERS– Several operations were carried out, in the past week (April 05-11, 2023), by detachments and units of the People’s National Army, as part of their noble missions to defend and secure the national territory against all forms of threats, demonstrating the unwavering and unfailing commitment of the Armed Forces to maintain peace and security in the country, said the Ministry of National Defense in a statement.

“As part of the fight against terrorism, combined detachments of the People’s National Army arrested (08) elements supporting terrorist groups in separate operations carried out across the national territory”, specified the same source.

“As part of the fight against organized crime and in continuity with the sustained efforts aimed at countering the scourge of drug trafficking in the country, “combined detachments of the ANP arrested, in coordination with the various security services during operations carried out through the Military Regions, (21) drug traffickers and foiled attempts to introduce large quantities of drugs from the borders with Morocco, amounting to (04) quintals and (62) kilograms of treated Hashish, and seized (101,107) psychotropic tablets”.

In Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar and Tindouf, “ANP detachments intercepted (216) individuals and seized (18) vehicles, (102) generators and (36) jackhammers, as well as quantities of explosives, detonation tools and equipment used in illicit gold panning operations’, while “(31) other individuals were arrested and (02) hunting rifles, quantities of foodstuffs intended for smuggling and speculation  amounting to (37) tons and (13.6) quintals of tobacco were seized during separate operations across the national territory”.

Similarly, “the Border Guards foiled, in coordination with the services of the National Gendarmerie and Customs, attempts to smuggle large quantities of fuel amounting to (16,514) liters in Souk Ahras, El-Tarf, Tébessa , Tamanrasset and Bordj Badji Mokhtar,” the statement pointed out.

On the other hand, “the Coast Guard thwarted, at the level of our national coasts, attempts of illegal emigration and rescued (159) individuals on board craft-made boats, while (456) illegal immigrants of different nationalities were arrested throughout the national territory”.
