Counterterrorism, fight against organized crime (Feb 08-14, 2023): Distinct operations with qualitative results- Full communiqué

ALGIERS– Several operations were carried out, in the past week (Feb 08-14, 2023), by detachments and units of the People’s National Army, as part of their noble missions to defend and secure the national territory against all forms of threats, demonstrating the unwavering and unfailing commitment of the Armed Forces to maintain peace and security in the country, said the Ministry of National Defense in a statement.
As part of the fight against terrorism and “thanks to the qualitative efforts of the security services of the Ministry of National Defense, a terrorist named Mellouki Haiballah surrendered, Tuesday, March 14, 2023, to the military authorities in Bordj Badji Mokhtar in the 6th Military Region” , said the report, stressing that “theaforementioned terrorist who had joined the terrorist groups activating in the Sahel region in 2012, had in his possession one (01) Kalashnikov-type machine gun, a quantity of ammunition and other objects”.
Also, combined detachments of the ANP also arrested “4 elements supporting terrorist groups in separate operations across the national territory”.
In addition, and as part of the fight against organized crime and in continuity with the sustained efforts aimed at countering the scourge of drug trafficking in our country, combined detachments of the ANP arrested, in coordination with the various security services during operations carried out through the Military Regions, 65 drug traffickers and foiled attempts to introduce quantities of drugs from the borders with Morocco, amounting to 16 quintals and 48 kilograms of treated Hashish ‘kif’, and seized 8.55 kilograms of cocaine and 36,596 psychotropic tablets”, specified the communiqué.
In Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Guezzam and Djanet, detachments of the ANP “intercepted 124 individuals and seized 21 vehicles, 103 generators, 52 pneumatic drills, as well as quantities of explosives, detonation tools and of equipment used in illicit gold panning operations, while 24 other individuals were arrested and 12 hunting rifles, 39 quintals of tobacco, 30,711 units of various beverages and quantities of foodstuffs intended for smuggling and speculation, amounting to 76 tons, were seized during separate operations across the national territory,’ noted the same source.
During the same period, the Border Guards “thwarted, in coordination with the services of the National Gendarmerie, attempts to smuggle large quantities of fuel amounting to 25,063 liters in Souk Ahras, El-Tarf, Tébessa, Adrar and Bordj Badji Mokhtar”.
In addition, the Coast Guard “thwarted, at the level of our national coasts, attempts of illegal emigration and rescued 68 individuals aboard craft-built boats, while 523 illegal immigrants of different nationalities were arrested throughout the national territory”.
