Counterterrorism, fight against organized crime (Feb 15-21, 2023): Distinct operations with qualitative results- Full communiqué- Photos

ALGIERS– Several operations were carried out, in the past week (Feb 15-21, 2023), by detachments and units of the People’s National Army, as part of their noble missions to defend and secure the national territory against all forms of threats, demonstrating the unwavering and unfailing commitment of the Armed Forces to maintain peace and security in the country, said the Ministry of National Defense in a statement.

“As part of the fight against terrorism, combined detachments of the ANP “arrested eight (8) elements supporting terrorist groups in separate operations carried out across the national territory, while one (1) homemade bomb was discovered and destroyed at the end of a combing operation in Boumerdés “.

In addition, as part of the fight against organized crime and “in continuity with the sustained efforts aimed at thwarting the scourge of drug trafficking in our country, combined detachments of the ANP arrested, in coordination with the various security services during several operations carried out through the military regions, 81 drug traffickers and foiled attempts to introduce huge quantities of drugs from borders with Morocco, amounting to 7 quintals and 41 kilograms of treated Hashish, while 2,99072 Psychotropic tablets were also seized”.

In Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, Tindouf and Djanet, detachments from the ANP “intercepted 210 individuals and seized 42 vehicles, 315 generators, 50 jackhammers, 15.5 quintals of raw gold and stones, as well as quantities of explosives, detonation tools and equipment used in illicit gold panning operations, while 42 other individuals were arrested and a semi-automatic rifle, 12 hunting rifles, 6 automatic pistols, 44 quintals of tobacco, 16,371 units of different drinks and immense quantities of food intended for smuggling and speculation amounting to 79 tonnes were seized during separate operations through the national territory “.

Similarly, “the border guard thwarted, in coordination with the services of the national gendarmerie, attempts to smuggle large quantities of fuel, amounting to 4,4455 liters in Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, Souk Ahras, El-Tarf and Tébessa, “added the same source.

On the other hand, “the coast guard thwarted, at the level of our national coasts, attempts of clandestine emigration and rescued 97 individuals on board craft-made boats, while 658 illegal immigrants from different nationalities were arrested across the national territory, “concluded the press release.
