Counterterrorism Operation in Algeria: ANP Apprehends Three Terrorist Supporters and Recovers Cache of Weapons

ALGIERS– In a significant development in the fight against terrorism and organized crime, the Ministry of National Defense (MDN) has revealed the impressive operational achievements of the People’s National Army (ANP) for the period spanning from August 30 to September 5. This week-long campaign has resulted in the discovery and destruction of terrorist bunkers, the arrest of three individuals supporting terrorist groups, and the recovery of a cache of deadly weapons.
In the press release published this Wednesday, the Ministry of National Defense (MDN) underscored the relentless efforts to maintain national security and combat terrorism and organized crime.
As part of their unwavering commitment to eradicating terrorist threats, a dedicated detachment of the ANP embarked on a search and combing operation in Boumerdes. During this operation, the ANP uncovered and obliterated seven casemates used by terrorist groups. These bunkers were found to contain a menacing arsenal, including ten defensive grenades, four homemade bombs, a pair of binoculars, a significant quantity of explosive materials, and various other equipment. This substantial seizure has undoubtedly dealt a severe blow to terrorist activities in the region, safeguarding the lives and well-being of countless citizens.
Moreover, the ANP has demonstrated their prowess in the fight against organized crime. Combined detachments of the ANP successfully thwarted the nefarious plans of 21 drug traffickers who sought to smuggle a staggering one quintal and 29 kilograms of treated Hashish across the border from Morocco. In addition to this significant drug bust, law enforcement also seized a staggering 115,284 psychotropic tablets, further hampering the operations of criminal organizations.
