Algiers, Algeria | July 9th, 2024 — To commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Algeria and Canada, a substantial delegation of business leaders from the Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA) has embarked on an economic mission to Montreal, Canada. The mission, spanning from July 8 to July 14, aims to enhance economic cooperation and explore new opportunities for trade and investment, as stated in a communiqué from CREA.

Throughout the week-long visit, the delegation will engage in numerous meetings with Canadian institutions and economic operators. On Monday, the Algerian delegation was welcomed at the new headquarters of the Federation of Quebec Chambers of Commerce, where they were introduced to the COREX program. This initiative is designed to facilitate and enhance trade between Quebec and the Northeastern United States.

“The COREX program, which CREA seeks to emulate, provides young exporters with access to resources and practical advice to better prepare for export activities,” the communiqué stated.

Additionally, CREA and the Federation of Quebec Chambers of Commerce agreed on a roadmap to establish connections between Algerian and Canadian businesses, particularly in the agricultural, industrial, and mining sectors.

The visit also provided an opportunity for a convivial meeting between the delegation and members of the Algerian diaspora working in the economic sector. This gathering aimed to strengthen ties and jointly celebrate the 62nd anniversary of Algeria’s independence.

On Tuesday, as part of the mission, the delegation will visit the Montreal Technoparc, an international scientific and technological business park and research and development hub that hosts over a hundred companies.

In partnership with the Canadian business community and the Canada-Algeria Economic Development Council, CREA will organize an economic forum on Wednesday. This forum will bring together Algerian and Canadian companies to discuss investment opportunities in Algeria.

The remainder of the visit will focus on bilateral meetings between CREA and various economic institutions, as well as with key economic figures from the diaspora, according to the CREA communiqué.
