CREA President Kamel Moula Engages with ILO Director-General at 112th International Labour Conference

Algiers, Algeria | June 13th, 2024 — Kamel Moula, President of the Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA), held constructive discussions today with Gilbert F. Houngbo, Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), on the sidelines of the 112th International Labour Conference in Geneva.

During the meeting, Mr. Moula reaffirmed CREA’s commitment to fully aligning with the International Labour Organization’s guidelines on social justice and the preservation of trade union rights. He emphasized that CREA members consistently demonstrate solidarity through actions aimed at preserving purchasing power and alleviating burdens on vulnerable families.

Addressing occupational health and safety, Mr. Moula highlighted CREA’s role in supporting companies to comply with legal requirements for workplace safety and health protection. He underscored the importance of ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for all employees.

Regarding skills development, Mr. Moula pointed out that CREA member companies are actively promoting professional training programs. These initiatives aim not only to facilitate career advancement within the workforce but also to equip employees with skills necessary for emerging job roles.

Mr. Moula expressed CREA’s strong commitment to engaging in discussions on social contract reform alongside representative workers’ and employers’ unions as per legal frameworks. He emphasized the importance of collective contributions to the ILO in shaping future policies that reflect contemporary economic and social realities.

In reference to Law 23-02 on trade union freedoms, Mr. Moula confirmed ongoing consultations between the government and trade union organizations as a permanent practice. He highlighted the collaborative efforts aimed at ensuring the rights and freedoms of workers are respected and upheld.

Director-General Houngbo commended CREA’s efforts and expressed confidence in its future role within the ILO. He acknowledged CREA’s dedication to promoting social justice, economic development, and sustainable practices, underscoring the organization’s potential to contribute significantly to international labor standards and policies.
