ALGIERS- President of the Council for Algerian Economic Renewal (CREA), Kamel Moula, presented a compelling case during a meeting with President Tebboune, high-ranking state officials, and private sector leaders on Thursday. His proposition emphasized the need for a close correlation between the Agriculture and Industry sectors to achieve food security.
“We advocate for the idea of a strategic alliance between the Agriculture sector and the food processing industry, which will be a rapid driver of economic growth.” In this regard, Moula proposed the establishment of a National Food Competitiveness Hub, placed under the authority of a higher regulatory body.
He explained that each country must implement mechanisms to shield itself from fluctuations in the basic food products market, including cereals.
Moula delved into the significant contribution of private entrepreneurs to the national economy. While acknowledging the important measures taken to support private investment, he lamented that business leaders still face “bureaucracy and resistance to change,” hindering investment and domestic production. “It is essential to objectively identify the strengths and weaknesses of each sector,” he suggested.
The proposed National Food Competitiveness Hub aims to foster collaboration and synergy between the Agriculture and Food Processing industries. This strategic alliance is envisioned as a catalyst for economic growth, ensuring the country’s resilience to market fluctuations in essential food products. Moula’s call for a comprehensive assessment of each sector’s strengths and weaknesses underscores the need for informed decision-making to drive sustainable development and economic progress.
