Accra, Ghana — August 27, 2023- Continuing his crucial African diplomatic tour, the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, arrived in Accra, Ghana, this Saturday to seek regional support and cooperation in addressing the crisis in Niger. As part of his mission, Mr. Attaf engaged in high-level discussions with the President of Ghana, Mr. Nana Akufo-Addo, focusing on strategies for achieving a peaceful resolution to the turmoil gripping Niger.

Appointed by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Mr. Attaf embarked on a tour of three African countries that are members of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), with a primary objective of devising a collective strategy to restore constitutional order in Niger and prevent further escalation of the crisis.

Mr. Attaf’s diplomatic efforts included meetings with his counterparts in Nigeria and Benin earlier in the week, where they deliberated over possible pathways to resolve the Niger crisis while ensuring political stability and the well-being of its citizens.

The pivotal moment of Mr. Attaf’s tour came during his visit to Ghana, as he was received by President Nana Akufo-Addo. A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted the significant exchange of perspectives and ideas during their discussions. Mr. Attaf conveyed a message from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, emphasizing the urgent need for intensified collaboration among regional leaders to find a peaceful solution to the Niger crisis and prevent any potential escalation that could destabilize the entire region.

President Nana Akufo-Addo, in response, expressed his solidarity with President Tebboune and praised his tireless efforts in spearheading a resolution to the crisis. The Ghanaian president commended President Tebboune’s vital role in seeking to alleviate the crisis’s impact on Niger and neighboring countries, acknowledging his dedication to regional stability and unity.

In a noteworthy gesture of goodwill and future collaboration, President Nana Akufo-Addo extended an invitation to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune for a state visit to Algeria. This invitation underscores the depth of their commitment to fostering enduring diplomatic relations between Ghana and Algeria, further reinforcing the belief in collective regional efforts to bring about a peaceful resolution to the crisis in Niger.

As diplomatic efforts intensify and African leaders join hands to address the crisis, the stage is set for a united approach that prioritizes the well-being of the Nigerien people and the stability of the region. The cooperation witnessed between Algerian and Ghanaian leaders serves as a beacon of hope, signifying a shared vision for a peaceful and prosperous Africa.
