Algiers, Algeria | February 4th, 2025 — The Cuban government has formally approved the appointment of Mourad Mebarki as the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to the Republic of Cuba. This diplomatic development was announced on Tuesday in an official communiqué issued by the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad, and African Affairs.

Mebarki’s appointment comes at a pivotal moment in Algerian-Cuban relations, reinforcing the historical ties of solidarity, mutual respect, and cooperation that have characterized bilateral engagements between Algiers and Havana for decades. His new mission is expected to build on the longstanding strategic partnership, particularly in areas such as healthcare, education, scientific research, and energy collaboration.

Algeria and Cuba have maintained a strong diplomatic bond since the early years of Algeria’s independence, with both nations consistently supporting each other on international platforms, particularly within the Non-Aligned Movement and the United Nations. The two countries share a legacy of cooperation in key sectors, notably in the medical field, where Cuba has played a crucial role in training Algerian doctors and providing healthcare expertise.
