Algiers, Algeria | September 4th, 2024 — In a significant move to enhance travel convenience, Luis Yasel, the Cuban Consul in Algeria, announced the launch of Cuba’s new online tourist visa system, “Evisa,” on Wednesday. The system, which officially went live on September 1, 2024, aims to replace traditional visa processes with a more streamlined and efficient approach.

Enhanced Efficiency with Evisa

Consul Yasel highlighted that the Evisa system is designed to cater to individual tourists, travel agencies, and airlines operating under contracts with the Cuban Consulate. Individual travelers can apply for their visas through the Evisa Cuba website, while travel agencies and tour operators are directed to use the Agencia Evisa Cuba site for their processing needs. Applicants will receive guidance via email to ensure they are directed to the appropriate platform based on their application type.

The Evisa system allows for a stay of up to 90 days in Cuba, with the option to extend the visa for an additional 90 days while in the country. This new system is expected to simplify the visa application process, making it more convenient and user-friendly for international travelers.

Transition Period for Existing Visas

To ensure a seamless transition, Cuba will honor the validity of existing tourist visas until December 31, 2024. This extension provides travelers with ample time to adjust to the new Evisa system without disruption to their travel plans.

The introduction of the Evisa system marks a significant step in Cuba’s efforts to modernize its visa management and enhance the overall tourist experience. By leveraging digital technology, the Cuban government aims to streamline entry processes and make traveling to the island nation more accessible and efficient for visitors from around the world.

Algeria and Cuba share a robust and enduring relationship forged through decades of collaboration across various domains, including trade, culture, health, energy, and politics. Their partnership, deeply rooted in anti-colonial movements and aligned values, exemplifies a commitment to justice and equity on the global stage.

Originating from their respective fights for independence in the 20th century, Algeria and Cuba have stood in solidarity with each other, with Cuba providing crucial military support to Algeria during its struggle for freedom. This solidarity has persisted over time, with Cuba being one of the first nations to recognize Algeria’s sovereignty post-independence.

Their collaboration has extended beyond military aid to encompass diverse sectors such as healthcare, education, construction, and sports. Notably, Cuba’s support during the “Dignity Operation” in 1963 further solidified their bond, laying the groundwork for Algeria’s enduring revolution.

As active participants in the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), both nations have advocated for the interests of the Global South, opposing imperialism and neocolonialism. Their collaborative efforts have centered on fostering global security, peace, and development while addressing issues of decolonization.

Recent economic ties between Algeria and Cuba have flourished, marked by high-level commitments and bilateral agreements. This growth is reflected in thriving trade relations and mutual cooperation, further strengthening their historic bond.
