ALGIERS-– In a significant step towards enhancing cultural cooperation and fostering diplomatic ties, the Minister of Culture and Arts of Algeria, Soraya Mououdji, warmly welcomed the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohammad Reza Babai, in a meeting that took place this Sunday. The Ministry of Culture and Arts announced this pivotal encounter, wherein both parties expressed their eagerness to activate cultural partnerships and agreements between the two nations.
At the core of their discussions was the reaffirmation of their commitment to implementing the cultural agreement initially signed on December 25, 2002, which has been a cornerstone of their cultural diplomacy, and the memorandum agreement focusing on cinematography, inked in 2017.
A notable outcome of this meeting was the formulation of several proposals aimed at strengthening cultural bonds. Among these proposals, a standout idea was the establishment of a twinning initiative between the national libraries of Algeria and Iran. This innovative endeavor is expected to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, cultural artifacts, and historical resources between the two nations, allowing both countries to gain valuable insights into each other’s heritage.
Minister Soraya Mouloudji, known for her dedication to promoting cultural diversity, put forth a series of initiatives designed to deepen cultural engagement between the two nations. One such proposition was the organization of a week dedicated to Iranian cinema in Algeria, a remarkable opportunity for Algerians to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of Iranian filmmaking. Additionally, she proposed the initiation of scientific seminars in both countries, fostering intellectual discourse and academic collaboration.
Furthermore, Minister Mouloudji suggested the creation of a Joint Commission. This commission would play a pivotal role in crafting a comprehensive work program, overseeing the implementation of various cooperation and exchange projects, and ensuring that the cultural agreements reach their full potential.
Ambassador Mohammad Reza Babai reciprocated the enthusiasm for cultural collaboration by proposing the creation of an Algerian pavilion at the prestigious Iranian National Library. This initiative will serve as a testament to the enduring friendship and cultural exchange between the two nations, offering Algerian treasures a new platform for international appreciation.
The exchange of expertise in the film industry, as well as collaborative efforts in joint production, was another notable suggestion by Ambassador Babai. This represents a significant step forward in the growth of both countries’ film industries, providing an opportunity to share technical knowledge and artistic vision.
Both parties also eagerly discussed the prospect of hosting cultural weeks in each other’s countries, offering citizens a glimpse into the diverse and vibrant cultures of Algeria and Iran.
In a remarkable show of commitment to these newfound cultural ties, Ambassador Babai confirmed Iran’s participation in the 13th edition of the Tlemcen International Miniature and Illumination Festival, scheduled from November 18 to 22, 2023. Furthermore, Iranian cinema luminaries are set to grace the 4th edition of the Annaba Mediterranean Film Festival (AMFF), taking place from November 3 to 9, 2023. The cultural festivities will continue with Iran’s presence at the 12th edition of the Algiers International Cinema Cultural Festival (FICA), scheduled from December 2 to 10, 2023, in Algiers.
