Algiers, Algeria | May 23, 2024 — Acting on behalf of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Salah Goudjil, Speaker of the Council of the Nation, paid a visit to the Iranian Embassy in Algiers on Thursday to sign the condolence book following the tragic death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raissi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and their entourage.

In his condolence message, Goudjil expressed profound sorrow and deep condolences for the unexpected and tragic loss: “It is with great sadness and profound grief that we have learned of the passing of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, a brotherly nation, Ebrahim Raissi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and their companions in a helicopter crash.”

Goudjil continued, “In this painful time that has struck the brotherly Iranian people, I extend, on behalf of President Tebboune, the Algerian government, and the people of Algeria, my heartfelt condolences. I assure you of our compassion and solidarity, praying to Almighty Allah to grant the deceased His holy mercy, to welcome them into His vast paradise, and to give their families patience and comfort.”

Reflecting on Raisi’s impact, Goudjil noted, “With the death of Mr. Raissi, Iran loses a prominent personality and a seasoned leader. History will remember his immeasurable efforts in the service of the brotherly Iranian people and his significant contributions to the Muslim nation, particularly his unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, to which he mobilized international support.”

He also mentioned Raissi’s recent visit to Algeria, highlighting its significance: “The Algerians will not forget the late president’s commitment, since taking office, to strengthening and promoting bilateral cooperation between Algeria and Iran. The memory of his last official visit to Algeria will remain a milestone in the journey of reinforcing the historic relations between our two sisterly countries.”

Goudjil concluded his message with a final tribute, “As we bow with reverence and respect to the memory of the victims of this tragic accident, we reiterate our sincere condolences and assure the Iranian government and the brotherly Iranian people of our full compassion.”

The message underscores Algeria’s deep sense of loss and solidarity with Iran during this tragic time, reflecting the longstanding and historic ties between the two nations.

The Final Farewell: Concluding the Funeral Ceremonies of President Raissi at the Imam Reza Shrine

On Thursday, May 23, 2024, the Islamic Republic of Iran bid a final farewell to its martyrs, President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, along with their companions, following the tragic helicopter crash in East Azerbaijan Province. Massive crowds of millions, including elders, youth, women, and children, gathered to pay their respects over a three-day mourning period that included official ceremonies attended by foreign dignitaries.

In Mashhad, the revered body of Martyr President Raissi was laid to rest next to the sacred shrine of Imam Reza (A) in the Dar al-Salam area of the Razavi shrine. The city witnessed a monumental and solemn procession, with Mayor Mohammad Reza Qalandar Sharif reporting that over 3 million people participated in the public funeral for President Raisi.

In the capital, Tehran, the body of Martyr Abdullahian was interred near the shrine of Sayyid Abdul Azim al-Hasani (AS) in Shahr-e Rey, south of Tehran. The funeral ceremony for Amir Abdullahian began from the “Basij” square in Shahr-e Rey, with a wide array of participants including various segments of the population, families of martyrs, and civil and military officials, culminating at the shrine of Sayyid Abdul Azim al-Hasani (AS).

In East Azerbaijan Province, particularly in the city of Tabriz, large crowds mourned the loss of the representative of Imam Khamenei and Imam of Tabriz, Sayyid Mohammad Ali Al-Hashem, and the Governor of East Azerbaijan, Malek Rahmati.

Additionally, the body of Brigadier General Taher Mostafavi, one of the martyrs who accompanied President Raisi, was laid to rest in the Jannat al-Zahra cemetery in southern Tehran. This coincided with the anniversary of the liberation of Khorramshahr.

Brigadier General Mostafavi was interred beside his brother, Martyr Hossein Mostafavi, in section 27 of the Martyrs’ Garden at Jannat al-Zahra. Meanwhile, the bodies of Martyr Mohsen Daryanoush and Martyr Behrouz Ghadimi, also members of the helicopter crew, were laid to rest in Najafabad and Abhar, respectively.

This national mourning period has seen an outpouring of grief and solidarity across Iran, reflecting the deep reverence and respect held for the late President Raissi and his companions. The participation of millions in the funeral ceremonies underscores the profound impact these leaders had on the nation and its people.
