Dien Bien Phu Victory Celebrated in Algeria: A Shared Triumph of Two Nations

ALGIERS- In a joint effort between the Vietnamese Embassy in Algeria and the national daily El Moudjahid, a press conference was convened to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 – 2024) and the signing of the Geneva Accords on ending the war in Vietnam (July 21, 1954 – 2024).
The event was graced by the presence of Vice President of the People’s National Assembly of Algeria, Messaoud Ghesri, along with representatives from various legislative committees, the Council of the Nation, the National Federation of Veterans of Algeria, members of the diplomatic corps, journalists, veterans, and Algerian friends.
Ambassador Tran Quoc Khanh emphasized the profound significance of the victory and the subsequent accords for oppressed peoples globally. He highlighted how, for the Algerian revolution, it served as a wellspring of inspiration, faith, and immense encouragement for the Algerian populace to embark on their revolution on November 1, 1954.
The ambassador underscored the enduring value of the lessons learned from these historic events, stressing the importance of passing them down to younger generations in both nations. He emphasized that doing so would further strengthen the traditional bilateral relationship between Algeria and Vietnam across all spheres.
Algerian delegates expressed that many Algerians perceive the victory as a shared triumph of the two nations, with their revolutions intricately intertwined. They recalled the pivotal historical milestones of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, the signing of the Geneva Accords, as well as the impactful words of General Vo Nguyen Giap during his visit to Algeria in 1976, which continue to resonate deeply in their minds and hearts.
The commemoration served as a poignant reminder of the enduring solidarity between Algeria and Vietnam, rooted in their shared struggles for independence and sovereignty. It reaffirmed the mutual respect, admiration, and friendship that continue to bind the two nations together, paving the way for further cooperation and collaboration in the years ahead.
