Digitalization of Justice: Minister Tabi’s Favorable Judgment

BY: Dr. Hana Saada

ALGIERS-  Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seals, Abdelrachid Tabi, emphasized the significance of mastering the digitalization process to enhance the services offered to citizens by the justice sector. He made these statements during the inauguration of the new courthouse in Tébessa. Tabi underscored that the proficiency of sector employees in digitalization would streamline their work and improve the services provided to citizens, litigants, and defense lawyers.

Quoted by APS, Tabi urged employees to embrace digitalization for inventory and archiving of judicial files. According to him, this would enable easy retrieval of files whenever necessary in the future, while saving energy and time. He added, “As part of the government’s program for managing disputes, improving procedures, and expanding remote judicial services for litigants and lawyers, our ministry has adopted a project to transition to the electronic system in civil matters at the court level, starting with the electronic exchange of appeals, memoranda, and other correspondence via the internet.”

The Minister also emphasized the need to adequately cater to persons with specific needs and the elderly to provide quality public service in line with citizens’ aspirations and the modern facilities available in the new courthouse. He urged the President of the Tébessa Court and the Attorney General to utilize the facility for training judges and sector employees and to organize study days and conferences on new laws, particularly those related to human trafficking, drug control, counterfeiting, and the use of forged documents.

Tabi recalled that the ministry has promoted and recruited over 3,000 workers in recent years to contribute to improving the social life and working conditions of sector employees.

Prioritizing Quality Services

The day before, the Minister of Justice, Keeper of the Seals, was in Souk-Ahras, where he inaugurated the new courthouse and emphasized the need to enhance judicial structures by providing citizens with quality services, reports APS. Tabi urged employees at the counters of this new building to ensure that citizens and litigants can obtain the documents they request in very short timeframes, reflecting the authorities’ efforts to improve and modernize judicial services.

“Significant resources have been put in place by the justice sector for the modernization and digitalization of documents, such as judicial records, nationality certificates, where judgments must be issued to citizens within a very short time,” he argued, before calling on sector employees to work harder to familiarize citizens with the various services and computer systems introduced by the sector to modernize and digitize its services. He mentioned a service launched at the end of 2023, allowing citizens to obtain judgments and other judicial decisions rendered in provinces other than where they reside.
