Algiers, July 16, 2023 – In a move that has been widely anticipated, Djahid Zefizef has officially stepped down from his position as President of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF). The announcement comes in the wake of Zefizef’s unsuccessful bid for a seat on the executive committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), which dealt a significant blow to his presidency.
Zefizef’s decision to resign was made public earlier today, as he expressed his disappointment at not being able to secure a position on the prestigious CAF Comex. “I had applied for a role on the CAF Comex, which was one of my primary objectives. We spared no effort in the pursuit of this goal. Unfortunately, our efforts fell short of securing a position on the Comex,” stated Zefizef in an official statement released through the FAF’s website.
Taking the opportunity to address the public, Zefizef expressed his gratitude to the nation’s authorities for their unwavering support since his election as FAF president. He also extended his appreciation to all those who had placed their trust in him throughout his tenure. “I would like to wish Algerian football the best of luck. Long live Algeria, and may our martyrs be glorified,” Zefizef added.
The resignation of Djahid Zefizef marks the beginning of a new era for Algerian football, with the opportunity to appoint a fresh leadership to guide the federation towards greater success. The FAF’s upcoming general assembly will serve as a pivotal moment for stakeholders to determine the future direction and vision of Algerian football, as the nation seeks to uphold its proud sporting heritage on both continental and international stages.
