ALGIERS- Djamel Belmadi, the coach of the Algerian national football team, has set his sights on a strong result against Uganda in their upcoming match on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. at the Japoma stadium in Douala, Cameroon.
Despite already securing their place in the final phase, Belmadi believes that a positive outcome in this match, which counts towards the 5th day (Gr. F) of the qualifications for the African Cup of Nations CAN-2023 (now shifted to 2024), is crucial for “maintaining momentum.”
Reflecting on their previous visit to Japoma for the 2022 World Cup match against Cameroon, Belmadi expressed confidence in his team’s ability to secure a result against Uganda.
Regarding the unusual choice of Japoma as the venue for the match, Belmadi remained diplomatic, stating that he was surprised but not concerned.
Following the Uganda match, the Greens will face their Tunisian counterparts in a friendly match on Tuesday, June 20 at the May 19 stadium. Belmadi acknowledged the challenge of this demanding schedule and confirmed that he would field two different teams for each match.
Belmadi’s professional and focused approach to the upcoming matches highlights his commitment to maintaining the team’s winning momentum and securing their place in the African Cup of Nations.
