ALGIERS- Doctor Rabah Sellami, Director of Hydrogen and Alternative Energies at the Commissariat for Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency (CEREFE), said, on Tuesday, that Algeria has the best assets in the Mediterranean basin for the production of renewables energies, including green hydrogen, of which it is able to market up to one million tonnes by 2040.
Speaking on radio channel 3, Mr. Sellami mentioned the availability of transport infrastructure, qualified human resources and experience in the liquefaction of natural gas for the production of green hydrogen, in addition to a long coastline that can house seawater desalination stations that will be used to produce green hydrogen, as well as a whole network of universities and research centers dedicated to the sector.
As a reminder, these are the objectives already set out in the roadmap adopted by the Council of Ministers and which is divided into three phases: 2023-2030 for the production of green hydrogen, 2030-2040 for its export, and 2040- 2050 for Algeria to position itself among the world’s leading countries for the production of green hydrogen.
