Earthquake in Morocco: Algeria Extends a Helping Hand, Opens Its Airspace

ALGIERS– In a heartwarming display of solidarity and compassion, Algeria has announced its unwavering support for Morocco, offering humanitarian aid and opening its national airspace to assist the neighboring country in the wake of a devastating earthquake. The announcement comes in the wake of a catastrophic seismic event that left a trail of destruction in Morocco, claiming the lives of at least 1305 people and injuring 1832 others.
The Presidency of the Republic of Algeria issued a press release on a somber Saturday, pledging its readiness to provide essential humanitarian assistance and mobilize all necessary human and material resources to aid the brotherly Moroccan people, should such assistance be requested by the Kingdom of Morocco.
In the press release, the Algerian authorities conveyed their heartfelt condolences and expressed their deep sorrow at the loss of lives and the suffering endured by the Moroccan people. The earthquake, measuring a 7 degrees on the Richter scale, struck several Moroccan cities with unrelenting force on a fateful Friday evening, leaving communities in shock and devastation.
One of the immediate actions taken by Algeria is the decision to open its national airspace for flights dedicated to the transportation of humanitarian aid and the evacuation of the injured. This critical move will facilitate the swift delivery of essential relief supplies and medical assistance to the affected areas in Morocco.
